Just purchased a Hygge Vester Step using a cycle to work scheme. Amazing customer service - I asked lots of questions in a short space of time before deciding on the purchase - nothing was to much trouble. The bike arrived 3 days ago, superbly packaged but almost ready to go with just the pedals needed adding. Battery needed a slight charge but was ready in 2 hours - the charging power box got very hot but I suspect that is normal. I adjusted the handle bar accessories using the tools that come with the bike - simply moving the positioning of the break handles and the gear switch levers to suit my hands. I turned on the display unit, initial code is 0000, then changed KM to Miles - all easy to do with a drop down menu. I attached the mobile phone holder and found the USB charging point on the display unit - slightly hidden down the front edge. I was then ready for a test ride. First thing I noticed was the obvious speed increase when you flick through the assist buttons on the control panel - on level ground power level 5 really boosts you along, so much so that I was forced to tried the breaks and realised they were first class! It took me a while but soon got the hang of changing gears to be in the best mobility for cruising, turning corners, stopping and pulling off again. The seat was very comfy and it was great peddling at force with the assist on full power to reach maximum speeds of around 25km hour. I haven't yet really worked the suspension out, including the pre-weight but had it on the setting that brought the suspension into play and it coped well when I took it off road and along a bumpy dirt track and along a woodland path with tree roots. I covered 15km is a really short space of time and surprised myself ! Its clearly early days but I already love this bike, it is stylish, practical, functional and has enough kick to get you places. I will be using it for birdwatching, so with regular stop and starts on lots of different ground types, the open step frame will be a really bonus, allowing both feet to be down and easy access on/off the bike - complimented by the ease of using the kick stand to support the bike. I got three items free as part of the package - I chose the phone holder, side panniers and a front basket. I am probably not going to use the front basket as its very well constructed from steel and will add weight that I don't need. I may see if I can swap it for a rear basket which is a more mesh grill basket which looks more light weight. I have 77% battery left so will be out tomorrow! This bike has the power to change my life, providing a great reason for increased exercise and mindfulness. Well done Hygge and your designers !
